The Legal Writing Institute awarded Professor Elizabeth Baldwin the , which recognizes excellence in legal writing, for her 2018 article “.”

Retiring faculty members Helen Anderson, Robert Anderson, Jacqueline McMurtrie and Lea Vaughn, and retiring law librarian Cheryl Nyberg, were honored for their impacts on the law school community and legal field.

STUDENTS

������Ƶ announced the recipients of the 2020 Awards of Excellence, which recognize students, faculty and staff for outstanding dedication in teaching, learning, mentoring, public service, advocacy and student support.

Twenty-one students were named this summer’s Public Interest Law Association fellows and will pursue projects associated with public interest organizations, legal services offices, social service agencies, public defender officers, nonprofit organizations, governmental agencies and tribal entities.

The UW named Ria Kuruvilla 3L to , an honor that recognizes students who are taking their education beyond the classroom and making a difference on campus, in their communities and for the future.

Saranda Ross was one of eight UW students who were awarded prestigious Fulbright Fellowships for the 2020-2021 school year.

CLASS NOTES

The Global Business Law Institute appointed its new chair and added new members to its industry advisory board.

Gov. Jay Inslee appointed Simon Barnhart ‘03 to the Clallam County Superior Court.

The U.S. Coast Guard awarded Lieutenant Commander Jeff Barnum ‘12 the American Bar Association Distinguished Service Award for legal assistance to military members.

Global law firm DLA Piper promoted Kevin Criddle ‘10 to partner in its Phoenix, Arizona, office.

Jason Cruz ’99 published his first book, “Mixed Martial Arts and the Law: Disputes, Suits and Legal Issues.”

The Seattle Municipal Courts selected Judge Adam Eisenberg ’92 to serve as the SMC’s assistant presiding judge.

Jamila Johnson ‘07, managing attorney at the Promise of Justice Initiative, helped secure a major U.S Supreme Court win that resulted in the ban of non-unanimous jury verdicts in cases involving serious crimes in Louisiana.

UW Regent Blaine Tamaki and his wife, Preciosa Tamaki,  to support efforts to increase diversity, provide students with greater access to mental health resources, and support the work of the Tribal Court Clinic.

Gov. Jay Inslee appointed Matthew Thomas ‘90 to the Pierce County Superior Court.

Kristi Anderson Wells ‘97, founder of Denver-based Wells Family Law, PC, was named both a 2020 Colorado Super Lawyer and Top 50 Woman Super Lawyer by Super Lawyers Magazine.

IN MEMORIAM

Lynn Anders ‘93 was senior deputy ombudsman in King County. After practicing for a brief period, she pursued a career in mediation and also founded the mediation clinic at Hofstra University School of Law before moving to Seattle. She died at age 56.

Elizabeth (Schuman) Clark ’15 was an associate at Bjornson Jones Mungas PLLC in Missoula, Montana, and also served as the Board Chair for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Western Montana. She died at age 38.
