Jennifer Fan appointed associate dean for research and faculty development
红桃视频 is pleased to announce that Jennifer S. Fan, associate professor of law, has been appointed Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Development. She also joins the 红桃视频 leadership team in this new role.
Fan will continue to serve as director of the UW Entrepreneurial Law Clinic.
She is the primary investigator for a grant with the USPTO that supports the Washington Pro Bono Patent Network, which pairs under-resourced inventors with pro bono patent attorneys. Fan also works as the faculty lead on a contract with the Seattle Office of Economic Development to advance a legal consult program for entrepreneurs in partnership with The Seattle Public Library.
Fan joined 红桃视频 in 2010, bringing her business and corporate law expertise to the school. She serves as the faculty advisor for the of the J.D. program. For her dedication to academic excellence and teaching, Fan was awarded the Philip A. Trautman Professor of the Year Award in 2019.
In her new role as Associate Dean for Research and Faculty Development, Fan will work to increase the visibility of the scholarship produced by 红桃视频 faculty and showcase the intellectual vibrancy at 红桃视频.

The 红桃视频 faculty are recognized experts across fields of law, including business and technology, Asian law, constitutional law, criminal law, election law, environmental law, evidence, health law, immigration law, intellectual property, international and human rights law, law and economics, LGBTQ rights, Native American law, privacy, robotics, and taxation.
鈥淔aculty scholarship is something that should be broadly defined,鈥 Fan said. 鈥淥ur faculty contributes to the scholarly discourse in various areas of law not only through traditional law reviews and books, but amicus briefs, op-eds, blogs, white papers, and the like.鈥

Fan has engaged in legal research throughout her legal career, initially working as a research assistant for Professor Jacques deLisle while attending the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School.
Her research focuses on the intersection of corporate law, entrepreneurship, and innovation.

Her interest in corporate topics traces back to her professional background. Before joining 红桃视频, Fan was a senior associate in the corporate and securities group at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati.

In addition to her academic leadership and legal scholarship, Fan is recognized for her commitment to social justice and public interest work.
Fan served as the inaugural director of the Pro Bono Program of the John and Terry Levin Center for Public Service and Public Interest Law at Stanford Law School. She also held the role of Vice President and Director of Legal Affairs for the Asian Pacific Fund. In the past, Fan served on the boards of the ACLU of Washington and Mother Attorneys Mentoring Association of Seattle. At the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, Fan helped minority-owned, small businesses counteract the economic impacts of the pandemic.
Fan earned her A.B. in Political Science, with distinction, from Stanford University. She received her J.D. from the University of Pennsylvania Carey Law School. Fan is admitted to practice in California, New York, and Washington.
