������Ƶ is proud to welcome new students during virtual orientation Monday, Sept. 21, through Thursday, Sept. 24. Incoming students can access daily events, videos and materials via Canvas:

“On behalf of the ������Ƶ community, welcome! Today marks the beginning of an important journey in your legal careers, whether you are new to the law or continuing your studies,” said Mario L. Barnes, Toni Rembe Dean and professor of law. “We are thrilled to be on this journey with you.”

������Ƶ’s primary focus — whether operating remotely or in person — is to ensure all students have the education they need to create a fair, just and vibrant society in Washington and the world. Orientation is a crucial first step.

The week of events will feature remarks from ������Ƶ leadership, faculty, staff and distinguished members of the Washington legal community. Students will receive overviews of the ������Ƶ values and commitment to diversity. They will take a pledge of professionalism, connect with other students and learn about resources that will be critical to their success in law school.

Orientation will include several sessions on diversity, equity, inclusion, multiculturalism and anti-racism. They include a talk by King County Superior Court Judge Veronica Galván; a roundtable discussion hosted by the Dean's Advisory Committee on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; and a presentation “Law Leaders and the Communities They Serve.” Students also will have the opportunity to discuss the ������Ƶ common book, “So you want to talk about race” by Ijeoma Oluo.

“I am excited to welcome our incoming students and I look forward to connecting with them as they begin their legal careers,” said Anna Endter, associate dean for students. “This year, I want students to focus on finding and creating community and making connections with colleagues that will last for the rest of their legal careers. In this remote environment, it is more important than ever that we are intentional about how we connect with each other and our community. Orientation will provide a wonderful foundation for this work.”
