Every year, thousands of potential students from all walks of life apply to law school. For those who get in, the journey starts long before they set foot in a classroom.
In 2019, four prospective J.D. candidates were accepted on early admission to ºìÌÒÊÓƵ and began their transitions to becoming full-time law students. Follow along from the moment they are accepted through the end of the year to experience life as a 1L.
Ever since she learned about the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision that established Japanese-American internment during World War II, Christine McFadden knew she wanted to get involved in the legal field. The granddaughter of one of the 120,000 Japanese incarcerated during the war, Christine decided she ultimately wanted to use her career to prevent such injustice from ever happening again — a goal she sought to realize at the highest levels.
Years later, married and with a successful career in Seattle's tech industry, Christine reached a point, both personally and professionally, where she finally felt ready to close one chapter of her life and begin writing the next. And as she prepares to put pen to paper, her family's experience — as well as those of all underrepresented communities that continue to suffer injustice today — remain foremost in her mind.
