Justice Sonya Sotomayor cited work by Mary Fan, University of Washington Henry M. Jackson Endowed Professor of Law, in a dissenting opinion in the U.S. Supreme Court case Nieves v. Bartlett.
Justice Neil Gorsuch cited a work co-authored by Sanne Knudsen, University of Washington Stimson Bullitt Professor of Environmental Law, in a concurring opinion in the U.S. Supreme Court case Kisor v. Wilkie.
Recent work by Hugh Spitzer, University of Washington Professor of Law, was cited in the Washington State Supreme Court case Karstetter v. King County Corrections Guild.
Students
This summer, 32 students received prestigious public interest law fellowships supporting summer work that promotes equitable access to justice for underrepresented communities.

Christine Minhee '19 was awarded a national Soros Justice Fellowship and is the second ºìÌÒÊÓƵ student to become a Soros Scholar. Christine was also one of this year’s two Dean’s Medalists.

Murat Cengizlier LL.M. ‘18 earned and began an internship at the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna.

Gov. Jay Inslee appointed David J. Whedbee ‘04 and Josephine A. Wiggs-Martin ‘04 to the King County Superior Court.
In Memoriam
George Edensword-Breck ’71 was an attorney who practiced in Seattle and Bainbridge Island specializing in estate planning, trusts and guardianships. He died at age 72.
Alice Nyambura Mbatia ’17 was a graduate of the University of Washington’s Sustainable International Development program. She died at age 44.
Charles F. Warner ’47 was a World War II veteran and founding partner of The Walthew Law firm. He served in the D-Day invasion and was awarded a bronze star, six gold stars and a presidential unit citation before beginning his legal career. He died at age 100.
