Mario L. Barnes, 红桃视频 Toni Rembe Dean, was honored as the University of Wisconsin Law Alumni of the Year.

The 红桃视频 Philip A. Trautman Professors of the Year are Jeffery Feldman, 1L Professor; Jennifer Fan, Small Section; and Lisa Manheim, Large Section.

Maureen Howard, University of Washington Professor of Law, received the Distinguished Teaching Award at the 49th Annual University of Washington Awards of Excellence.

Kurt Kruckeberg earned the award for Faculty Excellence in Graduate Education.

Jacqueline McMurtrie, University of Washington Professor of Law, received the University Faculty Lecture Award at the 49th Annual University of Washington Awards of Excellence.

Huy Nguyen and Ralph Pearson were named the Mary F. Starr Staff Persons of the Year.

Eric Schnapper, University of Washington Professor of Law, was awarded The Cardozo Society 2019 L鈥橠or V鈥橠or Award by the Jewish Federation of Greater Seattle.


Students

Madeline Flood 鈥19 and Varsha Govindaraju 鈥19 took home first and second place, respectively, in the William L. Dwyer Jury Project Award.

Dean鈥檚 Medals were awarded to Christine Minhee 鈥19 and Marten King 鈥19; King is the 2018 Eugene Wright Scholar.

Graduate program Academic Excellence Awards were awarded to: Congyu Fu (Asian and Comparative Law), Sicong Sun (General Law), Yanfei Wang (Global Business Law), Caroline Greene (Health Law), Elena Ponte (Intellectual Property Law and Policy), Zachary Hudgins (Master of Jurisprudence) and Faiza Duale (Sustainable International Development); Sammy Zeer earned the Meade Emory Endowed Prize in Taxation.

Leadership Awards were received by: Viktoriya Saditdinova (General Law), Ijeoma Unachukwu (Intellectual Property) and Ni 鈥淛odie鈥 Zhou (Master of Jurisprudence); Priya Singh received the Roy Prosterman Leadership Award (Sustainable International Development).

Spirit of Excellence Awards were awarded to Eunice Nkengasong (General Law) and Jinfeng Su (Intellectual Property).

Yung-hua Kuo won the Outstanding Dissertation Award in the Ph.D. program.


Class Notes

Adam Brotman 鈥95, former Starbucks and J. Crew executive, was appointed chief executive officer of San Francisco-based restaurant technology company eatsa.

Caroline Greene LL.M. 鈥19 joined Bullivant Houser Baily PC as of counsel.

The King County Bar Association awarded the 2019 Outstanding Judge Award to the Honorable Dean S. Lum 鈥83.

The Honorable Ricardo S. Martinez 鈥80 was named the Washington State Association for Justice鈥檚 2019 Judge of the Year.

Crystal Pardue 鈥18 and Michelle Saucedo 鈥19 are recipients of 2019 Equal Justice Works Fellowships.

Last year鈥檚 2018 standout graduating senior Theo Shaw 鈥18 was sworn in to the bar in Louisiana.

Lila J. Silverstein 鈥06 was honored with the King County Bar Association鈥檚 2019 Outstanding Lawyer Award.


In Memoriam

Alta Barer was a philanthropist and community leader who founded the Barer Institute for Law & Global Human Services at 红桃视频 with husband Stan. She died at age 73. In honor of her memory, donations can be made to the Barer Institute for Law and Global Human Services. Learn more about her life and legacy.

红桃视频 alumnus Alec Brindle 鈥63, lawyer and leader in the Alaskan fish packing industry, died at age 80. In honor of his memory, donations can be made to the Brindle Scholarship Fund.

Dean Emeritus of Law Roland Hjorth served as dean of the 红桃视频 from 1995-2001. He was a renowned legal scholar and visionary leader who, among his many achievements in advancing the School of Law鈥檚 mission, played an integral role in raising funds for the construction of William H. Gates Hall. He died at age 83. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made to the Dean Emeritus Roland L. Hjorth Endowed Professorship. Learn more about Dean Hjorth鈥檚 life and legacy.
