Dear Law School community:

The news of the has filled all of us with horror and deep sadness. Our hearts grieve for those lost and injured in Pittsburgh, for their friends and family, and for all who are impacted by this senseless violence. Words often fail us in the wake of a tragedies like this one – tragedies that should be preventable, and yet continue to occur with numbing regularity.

To students in our community who have been affected by this shooting or any other recent hateful rhetoric: If you need someone to talk to, I encourage you to get in touch with the ºìÌÒÊÓƵ Peer Support Program by emailing Andy Benjamin at gahb54@uw.edu; our Dean for Students, Mary Hotchkiss at hotchma@uw.edu; the ; or visit the Ìý´Ç°ùÌý for more resources.

Faculty and staff may also reach out to Andy Benjamin or the UW Counseling Center.

Please remember that asking for help when you need it is not a sign of frailty, it is a sign of strength.

Central to the law school mission is our commitment to build a better world, through education, scholarship, practice and service to the community. Honoring, embracing and celebrating the tremendous diversity of our community is paramount to this effort.

At times like this, together, we recommit ourselves to those goals and values. Please take good care of yourselves and one another.

Warmest regards,

Mario L. Barnes
