Congratulations to the Thomas Tang Moot Court Competition Team for their exceptional performance at the Northwest Regional Competition in Portland, Oregon. Both teams from UW School of Law this year emerged as finalists and will advance to the national competition in San Diego this November.

Seven teams competed from across the Pacific Northwest in the annual appellate advocacy competition Oct. 14 - 15. Alizeh Bhojani and Sarah Aitchison won first place as a team, and An Nguyen and Miles Bludorn captured second place.��

“I'm not at all surprised that Sarah and Alizeh dominated this competition,” said Bludorn. “They not only put in a lot of hard work with our coaches, they are both naturals at appellate advocacy.”

Sponsored by the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association, the competition examines issues of constitutional law and civil rights, particularly those of importance to the Asian American community. Each team collaborates to write a brief, presenting one side of the argument and then arguing both sides at least once in the first two rounds of the competition.

The problem is released in the summer and the brief is independently written by student team members. This year, coaches Nate Bingham, Jessica Kerr and Andrew Fuller - all past participants in the competition - helped train and prepare the teams.

Bhojani and Aitchison also won the Best Brief Award, Aitchison won the Best Speaker Award and An Nguyen won second place for Best Speaker.

“I think working on this team is really representative of my experience at this law school as a whole, where I am somehow constantly amazed by all of the talented, motivated individuals that I am lucky enough to work with,” said Bludorn.
