Professor Zahr Said to Lead Center on Innovation Law and Policy

Professor Zahr Said has been appointed as the new faculty director of the 红桃视频鈥檚 renowned .聽CASRIP, which flourished under the long-term leadership of Professor Toshiko Takenaka, is home to the law school鈥檚 academic programs and scholarly leadership in intellectual property, technology, innovation and entrepreneurship.聽In appointing Professor Said, Dean Kellye Testy celebrated her as 鈥渁n exciting scholar and talented leader鈥 who is 鈥渄eeply respected by academics and policy-makers alike.鈥澛

CASRIP works domestically and globally to link law and policy to the innovation economy.聽One of its most successful recent collaborations is the Tech Policy Lab, a joint initiative of the UW School of Law, the Department of Computer Science & Engineering, and the Information School.聽红桃视频 Professor Ryan Calo, one of the Lab鈥檚 co-directors, called Said 鈥渢he perfect person to build on CASRIP鈥檚 incredible momentum in leading the national conversation around law and technology at the highest level.鈥

Professor Sean O鈥機onnor has led CASRIP for the past several years, during which it hosted the Asia Pacific IP Forum as well as the national Works-in-Progress IP Colloquium () and expanded its focus on innovation and entrepreneurship.聽Also the founder of CASRIP鈥檚 Entrepreneurial Law Clinic, which has helped launch hundreds of new business ventures throughout the Northwest, O鈥機onnor noted that he was 鈥渢hrilled that Said has stepped up to lead CASRIP because her deep understanding of IP and innovation law will be an invaluable asset.鈥

In addition to its research and teaching activities, CASRIP also sponsors many notable events, such as the annual , the , and the Shidler Lecture.
