Consumer Law Seminar

Paula Selis acted as Senior Counsel for the Consumer Protection Division of the Washington State Attorney General's Office until her retirement in 2015. Her responsibilities included litigation, legislation, and business and consumer education during her 33 years with the Office.

In 1999, she was appointed head of the Attorney General's Office Consumer Protection High Tech Unit, where her cases centered on such issues as online privacy, Internet auction fraud, unsolicited email, business opportunity scams and health care fraud. She has co-authored articles on Internet-related consumer issues with the Shidler Center for Law, Commerce and Technology at the University of Washington Law School.  On a national level, she has worked with the National Association of Attorneys General on a variety of issues, including cross-border telemarketing fraud, Internet fraud, and privacy.

In addition to litigation, Ms. Selis has worked on federal legislation as well as numerous bills sponsored by the Attorney General, including legislation regulating telemarketing, 900-numbers, credit reporting, auto brokering, going-out-of-business sales, unsolicited email, prize promotions, identity theft and consumer financial privacy.
