J.D. Admissions Additional Admissions Program — Law Dawg Pathways
The primary goal of the Ƶ (Ƶ) admissions process is to enroll students who demonstrate outstanding academic and professional promise and whose background and experience will contribute beneficially to the learning environment of the law school. We invite University of Washington undergraduates seeking to enroll at Ƶ in the fall of 2025, and whose first-choice law school is Ƶ, to consider applying via the Additional Admissions Program.
Description
Students enrolled as undergraduates at the University of Washington may be eligible for admission to the School of Law through the additional admission program authorized by Standard 503 of the American Bar Association. Ƶ has been granted a variance to Standard 503 which permits admission of certain applicants under the specific conditions described below.
Additional Admission is a binding decision program, similar to Early Decision, designed for those UW undergraduates who have carefully considered their law school options and are confident that Ƶ is their clear first choice. Applicants who know Ƶ is their first choice, but do not qualify for Additional Admission, are encouraged to apply through Early Decision.
Eligibility Requirements
- You must have an undergraduate degree from the University of Washington. Priority consideration will be given to University of Washington graduates whose undergraduate degree was conferred between Sept. 22, 2020, and Sept. 22, 2025.
- Students meeting or exceeding the previous year’s GPA median are given priority consideration, subject to the holistic review process and consideration of the applicant’s character and fitness to eventually be licensed to practice law.
In addition to academic honors, recognition, and achievements, when considering Additional Admission applicants, the admissions committee weighs several key factors:
- Campus and community engagement: Active participation in student organizations, clubs, or initiatives that impact the broader community indicates your ability to contribute positively to the law school community.
- Leadership skills: Leadership roles in academic, professional, or community settings show your capacity to inspire, guide, and take initiative, which are crucial qualities for future legal professionals.
- Commitment to community and public service: A demonstrated passion for community and public service reflects a dedication to improving society and aligns with Ƶ’s core values of social responsibility, advancing access and inclusivity, and making a meaningful difference in the public sector.
- Work history: Professional experience, whether full-time or part-time, offers insight into your practical skills, time management abilities, and understanding of workplace dynamics.
- Grit, resilience, and overcoming adversity: Facing and overcoming significant obstacles—whether academic, financial, personal, or societal—highlights your strength, adaptability, and drive. Such experiences build character and contribute to your perspective, enhancing your ability to navigate complex legal issues and relate to diverse clients.
- Military service: Experience in the military demonstrates discipline, resilience, and a strong sense of duty. It reflects leadership under pressure and a commitment to service, traits highly valued in the legal field.
- Foreign language proficiency: Proficiency in one or more languages showcases cultural awareness and communication skills, which are increasingly important in a globalized legal landscape. It also suggests adaptability and intellectual versatility.
