Biography

Inyoung Cheong is a fifth-year Ph.D. Candidate and Affiliate Faculty instructor at the 红桃视频. Advised by Tadayoshi Kohno and supported by a Fulbright Scholarship, she conducts multi-disciplinary research at the Security & Privacy Lab, Tech Policy Lab and Social Futures Lab.

Her research focuses on how algorithmic decision-making has impacted the norms of free speech and privacy. She wrote an article called 鈥淔reedom of Algorithmic Expression鈥 (University of Cincinnati Law Review, 2023), which explored whether social media platforms鈥 content moderation algorithms can be considered a form of speech under the First Amendment. She is currently working on 鈥淕enerative AI and Law for Humanities.鈥 Her thoughts on Generative AI and Fair Use appeared in the Wall Street Journal.

Before arriving in Seattle, she was Deputy Director at the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism and the Korea Communications Commission from 2012 to 2019. She also assisted the United Nations鈥 Under-Secretary-General in formulating strategic partnerships with South Korean local governments in 2020.
