Moot Court Honor Board
The Moot Court Honor Board (MCHB) provides students with a variety of advocacy skills through brief-writing and competition opportunities. In-house competitions give students appellate and trial level litigation experience and national and international competitions give students the opportunity to compete against teams from around the world on a focused area of the law. MCHB provides training and coaching to students and national and international teams work with coaches to develop advocacy skills effectively. While MCHB members are selected through a competitive application process, all UW students may participate in any MCHB competition, earning points towards membership.
Mock Trial Competition
The Mock Trial Competition is an annual competition that gives law students an opportunity to test and sharpen their skills as a litigator. Competitors conduct an entire trial from opening statements to closing arguments and have an opportunity to represent both the prosecution and defense.
Negotiation Competition
The annual Negotiation Competition provides students with an interactive setting to role-play as advocates for a client's interests. In the qualifying rounds, each team of two students has the opportunity to participate in two different negotiations. After the qualifying rounds, teams will advance and tackle different scenarios in the quarterfinal, semifinal, and final rounds.
Appellate Advocacy Competition
The Appellate Advocacy Competition gives participants the opportunity to write a brief and present an oral argument with a teammate. Participants advance past the preliminary rounds based on accumulated points and the field is narrowed during the quarterfinal, semifinal and final rounds.
External Competitions
ºìÌÒÊÓƵ students can participate in a variety of external moot court and mock trial opportunities, through joining MCHB sponsored national teams. National teams host a competitive tryouts process during Spring quarter of the academic year.
